Education & Training
The standard Australian pathway is completion of a Paramedicine Board of Australia-approved university qualification, commonly a Bachelor of Paramedicine or Bachelor of Paramedic Science.
Approved programs are offered by universities around Australia, including undergraduate and some graduate-entry pathways. Graduates of approved programs are qualified to apply for registration, although they must still meet the other registration requirements. AHPRA

Career Changer Pathway
Paramedicine can suit career changers from nursing, healthcare, defence, emergency services, fitness or other people-focused occupations.
However, because paramedicine is a regulated healthcare profession, career changers generally need an approved paramedicine qualification before becoming registered.
Some universities offer graduate-entry pathways for applicants who already hold suitable tertiary qualifications.
Early Career
Graduate Paramedics develop practical emergency-care skills while working alongside more experienced clinicians.
They build confidence in patient assessment, emergency treatment, ambulance operations, documentation and communication with hospitals and other emergency responders.
Mid Career
Experienced Paramedics manage increasingly complex incidents and may support junior clinicians and students.
They can develop advanced skills in areas such as trauma, cardiac emergencies, mental-health response or community paramedicine.
Senior / Veteran Career
Experienced practitioners can progress into intensive-care or specialist paramedic roles, clinical education, operations management, communications, leadership or emergency-service management.
Others may move into healthcare education, research, emergency planning or broader clinical-management positions.
